Characteristic length scales of the electrically induced insulator-to-metal transition

چکیده
Some correlated materials display an insulator-to-metal transition as the temperature is increased. In most cases, this can also be induced electrically, resulting in volatile resistive switching due to formation of a conducting filament. While phenomenon has attracted much attention potential applications, many fundamental questions remain unaddressed. One them its characteristic lengths: What sets size these filaments, and how does impact properties? Here, we use combination wide-field scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopies characterize filament ${\mathrm{NdNiO}}_{3}$ ${\mathrm{SmNiO}}_{3}$ thin films. We find clear trend: Smaller filaments increase current density, yielding sharper larger drop. With aid numerical simulations, discuss parameters controlling width and, hence, properties.

Electrically driven reversible insulator-metal phase transition in 1T-TaS2.
In this work, we demonstrate abrupt, reversible switching of resistance in 1T-TaS2 using dc and pulsed sources, corresponding to an insulator-metal transition between the insulating Mott and equilibrium metallic states. This transition occurs at a constant critical resistivity of 7 mohm-cm regardless of temperature or bias conditions and the transition time is significantly smaller than abrupt ...
متن کاملPressure-induced insulator-metal transition in EuMnO3.
We study the influence of external pressure on the electronic and magnetic structure of EuMnO3 from first-principles calculations. We find a pressure-induced insulator-metal transition at which the magnetic order changes from A-type antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic with a strong interplay with Jahn-Teller distortions. In addition, we find that the non-centrosymmetric E *-type antiferromagneti...
متن کاملPressure-induced metal-insulator transition in MgV2O4
On the basis of experimental thermoelectric power results and ab initio calculations, we propose that a metal-insulator transition takes place at high pressure (approximately 6 GPa) in MgV2O4.
متن کاملField-induced thermal metal-to-insulator transition in underdoped LSCO
The transport of heat and charge in cuprates was measured in undoped and heavily-underdoped single crystal La2−xSrxCuO4+δ (LSCO). In underdoped LSCO, the thermal conductivity is found to decrease with increasing magnetic field in the T → 0 limit, in striking contrast to the increase observed in all superconductors, including cuprates at higher doping. The suppression of superconductivity with m...
متن کاملLocal distortion induced metal-to-insulator phase transition in PrRu4P12.
Extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) experiments have been carried out on PrRu(4)P(12) and PrOs(4)P(12) to study the metal-to-insulator (MI) phase transition in PrRu(4)P(12). No Pr displacement was observed across the MI transition temperature from the EXAFS data. Instead, our EXAFS data clearly show that a Ru displacement is associated with this MI transition. The very high Debye t...
